Built for migrant caregivers in German eldercare

The German translator built for healthcare professionals.

Kaya understands medical vocabulary, dialects, and elderly speech — the German your course didn't cover. Trained on handover language, symptoms, medication, and the words you actually hear at the bedside.

Why Kaya, not Google Translate

A specialist tool, not a general translator.

Google Translate knows the German you'd hear on holiday. Kaya is trained on the German you hear during a shift — medical terms, abbreviations, dialects, and the slow, searching speech of elderly patients.

Medical vocabulary, not dictionary vocabulary

Kaya is trained on 1,000+ medical and eldercare terms plus abbreviations caregivers hear during handovers — sourced from MeSpEn, ICD-10-GM, and our own curated eldercare glossary.

Dialects and elderly speech

Bavarian, Swabian, Plattdeutsch — plus the slower, less-crisp speech of patients in their 80s and 90s. Kaya is tuned for how people actually sound at the bedside, not how they sound in a textbook.

Your language, not just English

Tagalog, Hindi, Malayalam, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, Romanian — more coming. Speak the language you think in. Kaya translates to and from German.

GDPR-grade privacy

EU-hosted infrastructure (Supabase EU, Resend EU). No patient data stored server-side beyond request duration. Designed from day one for care-home compliance — not retrofitted onto a US consumer app.

How it works on your shift

Three taps. One hard word understood.

Kaya sits in your pocket and waits. When a patient speaks, a colleague hands over, or a doctor gives instructions — you pull it out and it's ready.

1

Tap and listen

Hit the mic when your patient starts speaking. Kaya hears dialect, whispered speech, and the ambient noise of a real care home. It doesn't mind if someone coughs or trails off.

2

See the meaning

Get it in your language in under a second. Medical terms like "Schenkelhalsfraktur" or "Blutdruck" are mapped alongside, so you learn the word the next time you hear it.

3

Reply back — in your voice

Speak in your own language, or type it. Kaya turns it into German for your patient — matched to their dialect so it sounds natural to them. Train your voice once, and the spoken reply is yours, not a robot's. No awkward intonation, no "Google Translate voice".

Practice mode

Brush up your medical German between shifts.

Kaya's practice mode drills handover phrases, symptom vocabulary, and emergency language with adaptive difficulty. Speak or type your guess in English — Kaya scores you and shows what you missed.

  • Decks for handover, symptoms, medication, mobility, and emergencies
  • Adaptive difficulty — weak words come back more often
  • Curated from real eldercare terminology, not tourist phrasebooks

Caregivers using Kaya

Real people. Real shifts. Real reasons they use Kaya.

Migrant caregivers across German eldercare — from Mumbai to Manila to Valencia — picked Kaya because their B1 course didn't prepare them for dialect, dementia speech, or the medical shorthand their team uses.

Priya Mehta Mumbai München

Bavarian broke me in week one — I'd smile and hope. Three weeks in with Kaya and I can actually catch what my residents are saying. Dialect doesn't scare me any more.

Altenpflegerin
Anitha Raghavan Chennai Berlin

My first handover here lasted twenty minutes and I understood maybe five. Last shift I got most of it the first time through — not because my German suddenly got better, but because Kaya learned the kürzel my team actually uses.

Pflegefachfrau
Diego Fernández Valencia Hamburg

Schenkelhalsfraktur. Harnwegsinfekt. Dekubitus. Every big medical word I meet, Kaya explains it once and I know it cold the next time. Word by word, shift by shift, my German keeps growing.

Krankenpfleger
Maricel Villanueva Manila Köln

There's a lady on my floor who loves to talk about her garden. For two months I just smiled. Last week I actually understood what she grows — and she held my hand because finally someone was listening.

Altenpflegerin
Katalin Horváth Budapest Frankfurt

Swäbisch. Plattdeutsch. Bayerisch. My B1 course taught me one German. Kaya helps me work with the five I actually meet at the bedside.

Pflegehelferin
Amine Belhaj Tunis Leipzig

One of my residents hums Schlager from the 70s when he's tired. I used to fake-smile through those moments. Last week I caught enough to sing a line back. He laughed — first time in days.

Questions, answered plainly

Things you might be wondering.

How is Kaya different from Google Translate?+
Google Translate is a general-purpose translator trained on the whole internet. Kaya is trained specifically on German medical and eldercare language — 1,000+ curated terms from MeSpEn, ICD-10-GM, and our own glossary, plus dialect variants (Bavarian, Swabian, Plattdeutsch) and the slower speech patterns of elderly patients. Kaya also flags uncertainty rather than confidently guessing, which matters in care.
Is patient data stored?+
No. Patient utterances are processed in memory and discarded — no audio is ever written to disk, and no patient data is stored server-side beyond the duration of the request. Your own translation history (the text, tied to your account) is optional and lives in our EU-hosted database (Supabase EU region). Everything is GDPR-compliant by design.
Can my organization get access for multiple caregivers?+
Yes. We work directly with care homes, hospital groups, and staffing agencies on team rollouts — including training, billing, and admin controls. Email partner@kayacare.app and we'll scope it with you.
Which languages do you support?+
On the patient side: German — including Bavarian, Swabian, Saxon, Plattdeutsch, and elderly/slow speech. On your side: English, Tagalog, Hindi, Malayalam, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, and Romanian to start — more added based on caregiver demand.
Can I use it in a care home that doesn't allow phones on shift?+
We're working with German care providers on a version that runs on your employer's approved device — or, for solo workers, operates in a discreet, audit-ready way that satisfies care-home policies. If that's your situation, email partner@kayacare.app.
Does Kaya work without internet?+
Right now, Kaya is online-only — you need a connection for translation and playback. Offline mode, where translation runs on-device, is on our roadmap.
For hospitals and care providers

Bring Kaya to your whole team.

Care homes, hospital groups, and staffing agencies use Kaya to reduce clinical miss-risk on handover, onboard international hires faster, and give every caregiver a translator that actually speaks the job.

  • Safer handovers

Medical-vocabulary-first translation + dialect and elderly-speech handling. Fewer mistranslations on the words that carry clinical weight — symptoms, medication, dosage timing, pain location.

  • Faster onboarding for international hires

Practice mode drills the vocabulary of a real shift — handover, ADLs, vitals, emergencies. New hires reach shift-ready German in weeks, not quarters, and lean on Kaya the rest of the time.

  • Admin + team billing

One invoice for the team, per-caregiver usage, central onboarding and offboarding. Optional custom glossary tuned to your ward — eldercare, ICU, maternity, post-op — so the words that come up in your shifts come up first.

  • GDPR-native, EU-hosted

No patient names stored by default. Audit-ready logs. Built for German healthcare compliance from day one — not retrofitted. Works on your organisation's approved devices.
